Week 7

EVALUATING FLORIDA

During the 7th week of Art Appreciation we began talking about the ability and theories of art critique. We were told to choose two of the three theories and then use those theories to evaluate the art. The theories I chose to evaluate the painting below were formalism and expressionism. Through the formalist approach we look at the realism, a broadened term. But through expressionism we look at the emotion behind the art or what it makes you feel. The warm tones through out the painting provide a sense of comfort and the dark areas and the river bend provide a sense of mystery.
